2015 In Review:

December 18: We helped the residents at the Manse on Marsh get into the holiday spirit with a performance of seasonal tunes.

November 9: The SLO Strummers performed on Veteran's Day at Sunrise Terrace in Arroyo Grande.

November 6: The SLO Strummers performed a Western sing-along at the Friday Brown Bag concert at the Presbyterian Church in SLO.

September 30: Andrew Molina and his father, Jay, held a workshop and performance at the Museum of Art. Andrew was featured in Ukulele Magazine as one of the rising stars in the ukulele world. We learned some traditional Hawaiian vamps.

September 29: Mark Baker held a workshop and concert in Los Osos, featuring songs on his latest CD. The previous night he stopped by our regular meeting in San Luis Obispo.

September 14: After an introductory  session on vocal warm-up techniques by Nicole Keim, Aaron Keim held a finger-picking ukulele workshop for over 40 participants. The second half of the evening was devoted to a performance by the duo.

2016 In Review:

September 30: The SLO Strummers performed for the residents at the Atascadero Christian Community.

September 20 & 21: Nancy Piver, SLO Strummers' music director, arranged a three-day visit by James Hill, noted Canadian ukulele musician and educator, and his cellist/wife Anne Janelle. During their stay in San Luis Obispo they held music classes for school children, gave a workshop for local ukulele players, and performed in two concerts.

August 26: The SLO Strummers entertained the residents of the Manse on Marsh during their luau. In addition to Hawaiian music, they were treated to a hula demonstration.

August 8: Australian ukulele virtuoso, Azo Bell, held a workshop and concert at the SLO Museum of Art.

June 13:  Mark Baker, from Arizona, came to San Luis Obispo for a ukulele workshop at the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art. The topic: Adding COLOR to liven up your music. Following the workshop, Mark performed songs from his recent CD and other original compositions.

June 5: The SLO Strummers participated in the first annual Grover Beach Ukulele Festival as part of the "Sizzlin' Summer Concert" series and farmers market at Ramona Garden Park. Six ukulele groups from around the area were featured. 

May 4-8: Several of our members attended the West Coast Ukulele Retreat at the Asilomar Conference Center in Pacific Grove. It was a wonderful weekend full of workshops and performances. Our own Allen Hopkins won the Grand Prize -- a Koalana ukulele presented by one of the instructors, Daniel Ward.

April 22: The SLO Strummers once again performed at the Manse on Marsh Street, celebrating Earth Day with earthy ukulele music.

January 29: The SLO Strummers sponsored a performance by the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra at the Christopher Cohan Center on the Cal Poly Campus. After the intermission, we were treated to a special performance involving 40 local school children who are learning to play the ukulele.

2017 In Review:

January 21: The SLO Strummers and Friends performed at a Celebration of Life honoring Dave Mills, one of our members, who passed away on November 18, 2016.


April 28: The SLO Strummers entertained the residents at the Manse on Marsh in San Luis Obispo. Western tunes were featured.


May 1: Daniel Ward and Heidi Swedberg came to the Museum of Art. Daniel lead a "Right Hand Magic" workshop. Afterward they entertained us with wonderful concert.


May 17-21: Several members of the SLO Strummers attended the West Coast Ukulele Retreat. Nancy Piver, our music director, led a large ukulele orchestra in a performance of "The Entertainer." Click HERE to see the performance. Here's a link to an article in Ukulele Magazine about the event.


June 10: The SLO Strummers participated in the 2nd Annual Grover Beach Ukulele Festival. Click HERE to see a San Luis Obispo Tribune article and video.


July 24: Lil Rev provided local ukulele players with a workshop featuring "The Blues and Boogie of Leadbelly." After the workshop we were treated with a lively performance.


August 11: The SLO Strummers once again entertained the residents at the Manse on Marsh in San Luis Obispo with a Hawaiian theme for their luau.
